Important update:25/07/2024
For programmes starting after 31st August 2024, our funding will have run out! There is currently no further full funding (e.g. for flights) in place.

This means that in order to participate, you will need to fund additional costs as below;

•your pre-departure costs (e.g. flights, visas, vaccinations, insurance, etc) on all programmes.

•you will also need to self-fund your TEFL certification training and programme support through paying a fixed fee of £1,400 per programme (regardless of duration).*

•*It is important to our mission to still offer some completely fee-free programmes. We expect these to run in the summer in China and year-round in India. All other projects will require the fixed fee.

Please note that the £1,400 programme fee is a discounted fee for the dates currently listed on our website as we transition from funding after 1st September. Programme fees may increase in 2025, and we will update this on our website once programme dates for 2025 are confirmed.

Please also note, this is very recent news. We are in the process of fully updating the website and all marketing materials and informing participants of replacement programme plans. With best wishes, The Gotoco Team.

We will be in contact with all applicants who have requested a specific programme before the end of August to offer alternative plans.

Thailand Dates (Fellowship Programme) (Required)

This is a fee-based, low-cost programme. On all programmes from 1st September 2024 onwards, you cover pre-departure costs (flights, visa, vaccines, insurance); all other programme costs are included (meals, accommodation, placement). The fee covers our TEFL certification and mentorship – the placement is funded through local programme resources. On this programme, during your internship, you will receive a monthly stipend to cover your meals, with accommodation provided, this is usually ca. £500 per month. Orientation commences on the start date indicated, so you need to arrive in-country in time for the listed date. Usually it is good to factor in 24 hours between leaving your home and arriving at our programme, with time difference factored in on top that could mean leaving 2 days before our start date. As a reference, you can see available flights on www.Skyscanner.net or www.trip.com
Other
Friend's policy note: We think it is great if people apply together as friends, because it helps you feel confident about the adventure that lies ahead and gives you someone to discuss packing and preparations with. However we cannot guarantee to place you with a friend on the same project, we will try to help where possible. Please note, •In the past, we have found that placing friends together might create cliques where some people were left feeling left out. Imagine if you were the lone participant on a project where 3 of 4 other participants were good friends in advance.. •We also find that the self-development opportunity can be far far richer when you join alone, lone-travel is a courageous and very educational thing to do. We offer a great support and social network, so you will find that joining without friends is fine, and gives you a good compromise between pure lone travel and having people with you. Most people join our programme independently of friends, and the feedback is usually that they got so much out of it because of the experience of joining a programme alone and making new friends there - reinventing oneself and exploring the world independently etc. We gear the programmes towards lone travellers, if you are a group of friends keen to travel together, I'd recommend that you choose the same region (in this case SE Asia) and then go to different projects, but meet up at the end for travelling together. So, if you have exceptional reasons why you need to be placed with a friend, please let us know and we can consider it. Reasons might include past trauma that means you need an emotional support companion with you, or if you are in an established romantic relationship then we can also consider this too. Please let us know about that below. In many cases, we won't be able to place you with a friend but please tell us your reasons and we will do what we can. Admin note: •If you want to have a chance of being placed with someone, they need to have already filled this form OR do so within 24 hours of you doing so. •If you don't include their username in the field below, then we won't know who they are. Please find out their username from them and fill it in below - we don't need their name, just username. •Please tell us your exceptional reason for needing to be placed with a friend below too
Final and important bit! Please ensure the programme date shown below is the one you wished to select!
